Don't Get Carried Away

Nas and Busta again, already? Yup.

This time Dr. Dre handles the production and the atmosphere is more raucous.

[NAS]
I'm the enigma
There is none harder, smarter
Martyr, Godfather
My interest: your departure
Pardon, Dre, this beat is a monster -- catchy
Like sleeping under open windows that's drafty
Then waking up, my throat scratchy
That's how I spit it nasty
They short, a few inches north of a dwarf
My flow is Murcielago
Ghost to the narco's
Toast on the waist
The original Pablo
Still a pyramid architect
Mix liquors like a chemist
Killer lyricist
Poetical tyrant
Sneaker store terrorist
Mount Everest
I climbed it
Heat is drawn
No creeping on me
Whenever I'm bent
My mind spray
My .9 spray
It freaks styles like 3000 Andre
To keep piling, keep pushing them drops
Nas, running Hip-Hop
Busta Bust, we don't stop

Busta Rhymes f/ Nas: Don't Get Carried Away

I'm not felling this, I hate the 50 cent esque hook, the Nas verse is one of the worst I've heard in a while, and the production is ok at best.

I'm a lil dissapointed to say the least.

Really, you think this is a bad Nas verse? The production doesn't have me excited like other people might have been, but I think Nas came off. How he molds his delivery on "It freaks styles like 3000 Andre", the fact that he used "dwarf" in a rap, the extended "open window" "spit it nasty" reference, it's a good brag rap to me.

can you expand a little on the open window spit it nasty reference? I'm curious to see what the meaning is behind that. Either that or im overanalyzing things again...

anaonymous1,

Why can't I download from sendspace?
If you see some of these messages even though you are not downloading or have not reached a daily limit, it could be that you are using a shared IP or a Proxy. A proxy server, or a shared IP, allows many computers on a network to share a single IP connection to the Internet. It is commonly used at places of employment, universities and some Internet Service Providers. If you are connected in this way, you will need to join sendspace Max™ to use our service.

I share an IP or use a Proxy - can I still download?

anonymous2,
I don't know how many layers the "spit it nasty" bit had, but here's how I see it.

Pardon, Dre, this beat is a monster--catchy
^^beat is contagious much like a cold would be

Like sleeping under open windows that's drafty
^^a cold that you would get from sleeping under
^^a window that's letting air leak in

Then waking up, my throat scratchy
^^after sleep, you wake up feeling a little sick
^^one sympton being a scratchy throat, possibly phlegmy

That's how I spit it nasty
^^if you literally had this cold
^^your spit would be all mucus-impacted
^^which would be nasty
^^or if you use it in this metaphoric sense
^^spit = rap; nasty = sick, ill, good
^^and also nasty being a reference to "Nasty Nas"

I just liked how the brag extended to four lines, beyond mere simile.

Well, I think the Mount Everest line is simple enough, Mt. Everest being a symbol of great personal struggle and triumph for anyone who can reach its peak. So Nas is bragging that he's made it to the highest of the highs, while most dudes meet death even just halfway up. "I survived the livest niggas around / Lasted longer than more than half of you clowns."

"The sneaker store terrorist" line is a bit different. A. You have to ask why it was edited out originally. B. Is he making a reference to Richard Reid, the would-be British terrorist who wore explosives in his sneakers as he boarded a plane? C. "I'ma addict for sneakers"? No historical reference, just continuing that theme?
